Welcome to the new Black Pest Prevention website!  I’m Dr. J. T. Vogt, Technical and Quality Control Director for Black Pest, and I’ll be posting a weekly blog entry here.  From week to week you'll find timely industry information, tips on making your home less attractive to pests, updates on various activities here at Black Pest Prevention, or interesting tidbits about insects, spiders, and other pests.

My background in entomology has taken me to Oklahoma, where I was a research and education specialist after receiving my Ph.D. at Auburn, Mississippi; where I worked as a research entomologist for the U. S. Department of Agriculture, and here, where I am responsible for all regulatory and technical aspects of our business in the Carolinas.  Insects have always been a tremendous source of wonder and fascination in my life, and in addition to keeping up with the latest pest prevention technology I enjoy speaking with groups (from schoolchildren to civic organizations) about all aspects of entomology.  Please, feel free to inquire about speaking engagements – I will be more than happy to schedule a visit with your group, and of course there is no fee.

But enough about me – let’s talk about you, the Black Pest Prevention customer (or potential customer!).  Ultimately, my goal is to see to it that your property is protected from a wide variety of pests, and that your total satisfaction is the personal responsibility of every service professional we employ.  I hope that you will utilize this blog as a resource to learn about pest prevention, seasonal pest issues, and the broader field of entomology.  Additionally, I recognize that our customers are our greatest teachers – and I invite questions and comments about all things related to pest prevention so that we as a company can learn as well.  Your concerns are our concerns.  Selected questions will be posted on the blog and answered, and I will make every effort to personally respond to each post received.  You can post your comments or questions using the form below (or click on the "Add comments" link at the tope of the page).  We're always glad to hear you.

Again, welcome, and I hope to hear from you!

What are your biggest pest problems in SC? Here, (Texas) we have fire ants and mosquitoes as the big concerns.

    Hi James!

Fire ants are a concern here, but in terms of household pests we deal with odorous house ant more than any other species. There are companies in our area that provide mosquito services but we do not currently offer seasonal mosquito protection. Keep your eyes on this blog where I'll be posting about some of our more prominent pests as they become active throughout the year...

Found nasty, little ants swarming my kitchen this am......Black's people (D.Howard-not sure of this name) just left.....found large nests outside, feel confident that there will be no problem inside, now that nests have been dealt with and we know what to look for in the future. Thanks for responding so quickly, very courteous and informative representative of your company.
